Périgord Vert, nicknamed thus by Jules Verne, qualifies the green part of the department of Dordogne. In the Dordogne, gastronomy is a real art of living. Here, you can taste the simple pleasures of generous cooking with authentic flavors, a heritage of the traditions of our territory. Our producers, farmers, restaurateurs and wine makers work every day for the pleasure of sharing with you their passion for our terroir and its quality products.

We are proud to accompany the discovery of one of the jewels of French gastronomy, first around the table of our hotel which gives pride of place to the regional produce but also by organizing Perigord Black Truffle weekends on our local markets (Fridays in Brantôme, Saturday in Thiviers and Sunday in Sorges).

Alongside the essential, foie gras, truffles, Bergerac wines, strawberries, walnuts and cepes mushrooms ... you can also discover other local produce such as ostrich, morel mushrooms, bison and honey.

Castle of Jumilhac-le-Grand near la Coquille

5 centuries of history, art and architecture in Haut-Périgord.

The castle and gardens Jumilhac welcome you all years except with christmas and new year's day for visits with a guide, night visits. Possible to rent for events such as: weddings, parties, concerts, theatre plays, …

In the hearth of Périgord, you can discover this castle, built between the XIII and XVII centuries, and its gardens about gold and alchemy.

You will learn the history of the castle and its family over the centuries.

This castle is classified as an historical monument and is still a private castle, owned by the same family since the 16th century the Marquis of Jumilhac.

Castle of Puyguilhem

The castle of Puyguilhem, protected by the title of  historic monuments  and open for public is situated in the commune of Villars, in le french departement of the Dordogne. Constructed in the XVI century, this castle shows us its Renaissance style, just like the castles of the Loire.

The castle is 34 kilometers from Perigueux.

The village of St Jean-de Côle

Saint-Jean-de-Côle is a medieval village located near Brantôme, in the Green Perigord. It has the label of « Plus Beaux Village de France » (The Most Beautiful Village in France). Its name comes from the lovely river that crosses it : the Côle River. It is a bucolic village with its half-timbered houses rebuild in the fourteenth century located in the countryside with an interesting heritage. It is pleasant to wander in that village where many streets are only open to pedestrians.

You can see the marvelous Château de la Marthonie and the church Saint Jean-Baptiste.

Road to hike or ride with your bike

THE GREEN ROAD « Thiviers Saint Pardoux »
The road connects Saint Pardoux la Rivière to Thiviers by passing next to the village  Saint Jean de Côle (one of the most beautiful villages of France). This trip of 17 km borrows the old train tracks. Thanks to the road that is adapted,you have the possibility to take this road by foot, by bike or even by horse.

This road will help you to discover the hidden treasures of Jumilhac : a mill, water and gold (5.5km)

St Pierre de Frugie: small road of the 3 castles
A hike with a story teller to discover the surroundings of Montcigoux, hamlet near Saint Pierre de Frugie and the Haute Vienne. (6km)

Tasty road : Around wine, at Colombier
In the Bergeracois vineyard, the village of Colombier dominates with its bell tower and its house of white stones, hectares of vineyards of Bergerac. This trip makes it possible to walk trough the lines of vineyards and the soft Bergeracois hills (6km)

Périgueux : around ancient time
This trip in the part of the wonderful city of Périgueux make you discover the life in ancient times. You can admire the remains gallo romains. (7km)

Around the lake Saint Estèphe
The grand étang of Saint Estèphe, departemental proprety, gives you free access. Lots of amenities and nature art were build (3.9km)

Grand Etang of Saint Saud Laccousière

The grand étang of Saint-Saud-Lacoussière, represents a touristic site of 13 ha, the exceptionnal wild landscape which brings joy to fishers  (handicapped access). One hike road (2,5km) which gives access to walk around the lake to discover the flora and fauna. Enjoy the beach where the bathing is supervised in july-august by 2 diplomed lifeguards, sometimes 3. You can also play beach volley,  paddle, playgrounds to give children joy and picknick tables who welcome family and friends to have nice moments. A restaurant and a snackbar are also there. A stationary area for camping-cars and a big car park to give direct access to the site. Finnaly there is also Ski-Club Périgord Vert who propose activities all the weekends of july and the last weekend of  august. handiski days are also organized by the club who favorise the intergration of disabled people thanks to the special equipement, with a tiralo (06 73 80 37 23).

Saint Priest de Frugie

This hilly and woody town is the road Compostela, via Vézelay, with many ponds, and crossing by two small rivers. The Vieillecour forest sheltered the apex of Dordogne, by 476 meters.

Limoges

The nice city of Limoges, where there's teh famous porcelain, the halles with their many products reopened their doors. The cathédrale Saint Ethienne and the churches Saint Michel et Saint Pierre are open to visit. Nice city for the shopping fans. The train station of Limoges is the second of the most beautiful train stations in Europe. Possibility to visit the city with the little train. La rue de la Boucherie is also nice to discover.

Brantome, Green Venice of Périgord

Real gem, Brantome the green venice of Perigord , will let you discover the authentic Perigord with its little streets ans its architecture.The abbey has the oldest bell tower in France. Medieval Bridge, Pont de la Tour of Challard

This medieval bridge, named Pont de la Tour, spanning the river Isle. Isle is at the same time at the towns  Chalard and Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, in Haute-Vienne, and of Jumilhac-le-Grand, in Dordogne. Le pont de la Tour is classed as a historic monument since 16 november 1984.

Hike on the green road (voie verte)

Situated in Limousin,  20 minutes from our hotel, The green road of Hauts de Tardoire, a distance of 13 kilometers long ,placed between Châlus and Oradour sur Vayres plods through a landscape of nature, where rollers, disabled persons, hikers, bikers, can walk through a nice and secured place. The green road is forbidden for motorized vehicles.
